This Ojibwe Turtle Shell Rattle was handcrafted by Ojibwe Artisan and Elder Harvey Bonga.
The rattle is made from a dried - (found in the wild, not harvested) turtle shell, cords are made from leather, a Diamond Willow stick is used for the handle.
Decorated with red and black leather, small feathers, blue and green beads, carved eagle head at the tip of the stick.
Small Quartz stones make the rattling sound.
The rattle is about 5in wide and 6 1/2 inches long. The handle is 14 inches long and made of Diamond Willow. Altogether about 21 inches long. This rattle is new, has never been used ceremonially and was made for sale. Sturdy enough to be used, beautiful enough to be put on display.
